Historical Research interests

  • Libya: My Doctoral Research at Cambridge University focuses on the strategic, diplomatic, and institutional factors which shaped British policy  during the British Military Administration of Libya (1942-51).  This work explores the contingent nature of British ‘state-building’ in the Libyan context.  It could be said, in fact, that the British ‘constructed’ the unified Libyan state ‘by accident’, i.e. only after their plans to create a separate Cyrenaican state under their tutelage were rendered impossible on the international stage.
  • Syria: My primary research interest used to concern: French policy towards the Alawites of Syria from the rise of Leon Blum’s Front Populaire in 1936 until the French evacuation of Syria in 1946

  2. Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with a few pics to drive the message home a little bit, but instead of that, this is great blog. An excellent read. I will definitely be back.

  9. I’m impressed, I must say. Really rarely do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. Your idea is outstanding; the issue is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I stumbled across this in my search for something relating to this.
